Well, 3 words best describe the City Of Sin: OVER THE TOP!
We arrived at the airport in Las Vegas in the late morning. Our flight was rather interesting. Jeff was the lucky guy to sit next to the drunk woman on the plane. She was ordering her Chardonnay on the flight before 9am. She continued to babble to us about how she loves the mountains because she's from Oklahoma and it's so flat there. She also tried to share her lipstick with me because "before I leave I'll be bound to see men in lipstick!" Oh by the way, she was about 50 years old. She is also the first person I've seen text messaging while IN FLIGHT!! I couldn't help but try to read what she was typing....something along the lines of "I haven't even met you yet, but I love you!". She claimed she was there to visit her daughter....sounds more like a tryst with someone she met online! Oddball #1.
The landing into Las Vegas was a sight. We could see the entire strip from the plane window. Before we even made it to the baggage claim there were slot machines being played. We found our luggage and we were off! It was a short taxi ride to our hotel and we hit the casino pronto. Jeff and I are not successful at slots or video blackjack....it totally seems like a scam.

Our Hotel: Treasure Island
We spent the first day (over 100 degrees by the way) walking the strip. We wanted to see hotels inside and out. And do we have the pictures to prove it! We went southward on the strip towards Mandalay Bay. It is the furthest south hotel on the strip. This is the glitzy and more upscale end. Over the top hotels and shopping. We saw the moving statues at Caesars Forum Shoppes, the Lion enclosure at MGM, the roller coaster at NYNY, and the Eiffel tower at Paris. All done up in their over-the-top-ness. We did manage to find the monorail. It's hiding...sneaky thing. We went to see a topless show that night (when in Rome right...). It was very good, not tacky horrible like I thought it might be. We stayed up until easily 3am wandering around. It is such an active city and you would NEVER know it was that late!!
Brides, brides, brides.....everywhere!
The next day we wanted to explore the other end of the strip (the kinda yucky end) towards the Stratosphere. That is a LONG walk from Treasure Island! It has kinda gone downhill from when I was there back in 1996. We took a quick stroll through Circus Circus for old times sake....oh boy.....I thought it was great back then....it needs some updating now! We made it down to the Stratosphere and decided to go to the top of the tower for a look. It was absolutely worth the ticket price. You can see for MILES AND MILES!! They also have added 2 kind of insane rides up there at the top. Theres still the old roller coaster and the one that shoots you up the needle. The new ones are asking for trouble if you ask me. One involves an arm with 10 "swings" hanging from it. You get strapped into the swings and then the arm rotates out over the edge of the building 108 stories in the air and flings you around like a ceiling fan. No thanks. The other isn't much better, to me. It looks like a big toboggan you sit in. It's on one end of a sort of teeter-totter number. Then the toboggan moves forward, the teeter-totter tips forward and you pretty much go sliding 30 feet over the edge of the building until it jerks you to a stop and you lose your lunch to pedestrians 866 feet below. It is interesting to watch it from the observation deck below....unaware viewers tend to scream thinking someone is going overboard...and subsequently start screaming "no, no, no, no, no" until they realize everyone is watching them over-react! I could people watch for hours.
Later on we wandered back to the hotel and wanted to see the Sirens of TI, the show outside of our hotel. Crowds form about 45 minutes prior to the show! It was a zoo! I can see why, it was full of beautiful and next to naked women performing as "sirens" and luring the manly-men sailors to their ship. They weren't so bad to look at either!
Later that day after getting BACK to our hotel, we decided to hit the pool. Some say it doesn't rain in the desert....wrong! A little sprinkle sent people running. I guess it came in good time because Jeff and I needed to get ready for dinner and a date with Wayne Brady. His show was VERY entertaining. Jeff got a headache from laughing so hard and my cheeks hurt! We had great seats in the second row, center!!
After the show we wandered back into the casino determined to win something...anything! After being unsucessful at more slots and video blackjack (which we have now boycotted), we decided to wander over and watch some Craps. We were determined to try to figure out how to play that game. It seems very intimidating when you pony up to the table. Well we got lucky, those couldn't have been the nicest and most helpful people to newbies! The guys on both sides of Jeff and I were more than welcome to tell us how the game goes. One more guy down the line gave me a few chips to play with and I must have had some beginners luck because Jeff and I were on a roll. After both of us managed to roll the dice OFF the table, Jeff went on a rolling streak that lasted about 45 minutes!! It was win after win. So much infact that some guy around the table gave Jeff some chips in appreciation for how much money Jeff had won him!! Here's the secret...according to the guy who gave me the chips....turn both die to show the 5's on top. Pinch them together and then roll them down the table. I don't know what's up with the 5's, but that's the only way I'll roll those dice! After all was said and done, we left with more money then we came with, so we're happy.
Las Vegas was a fantastic experience, and we'll be back to play some Craps!!
As a side note.... we were fortunate enough to see 2 men dressed in heels, a wig, and sparkly dresses dancing like Tina Turner on 2 separate occasions.....one was Wayne Brady.
Me and Beyonce.
Jeff and JFK.
